Welcome to Teaching to the 4th Degree!

I'm Jamie, and I'm excited you're here! Here's a little FAQ to get to know me!

Where are you from?

I grew up in Eagle Mountain, Utah. I moved to Provo to attend Brigham Young University and lived in Peru for about a year and a half. I currently live in Salt Lake City.

Tell us about your teaching life!

I've taught for 9 years now, either in 4th or 6th grade. I'm an upper elementary teacher for sure (props to you, my Kindergarten teacher friends). I've taught in 3 different districts, 3 different schools, and 4 classrooms. I've taught over 200 students.

Tell us about your family!

I'm the oldest of 4 kids. My siblings and I get along great (now that we aren't teens and preteens). I'm now married to my husband, Jeff. We had a baby in the middle of a pandemic. Our son is growing and getting bigger every day.

Favorite Book to Read to Students?

I love to read The Witches aloud to my students. When I was in 4th grade, my teacher read it aloud to us, and she did the most amazing voices. I decided that I wanted to do the same. My students love the book each year!

Favorite Drink?

I'm probably super boring, but I get water most places I go. Sometimes I'll get a Sprite, but for the most part, water suites me just fine.

Favorite Place to Visit?

Wateron, Alberta, Canada. If you haven't been, you need to go. Or better yet, don't. Then I can keep it all to myself. :)

Favorite TV Show?

Probably The Office? But I also love Psych, MASH, Cobra Kai, Stranger Things, Parks and Rec, and Corner Gas (a great Canadian TV show). My husband and I also binge-watched Survivor during the pandemic. We got through season 34, and now we need to invest in Paramount Plus in order to get totally caught up. (Can't we just consolidate all the new streaming services? I thought that's what Netflix was for!)

Favorite Movie?

The Princess Bride followed closely by The Emperor's New Groove.
